Prefecture of Chania

Georgioupolis

A favourite holiday resort on the north coast between Rethymnon and Chania.

Until a few years ago, this place was an insiders’ tip on the crowded north coast. The village still has charm today and offers everything for a restful, diversified holiday.  The little fishing village grew up in a marshy corner of Crete. The river which flows into the sea there forms a large delta, which even in summer keeps wide areas of land under water. Today, hotels of all categories, holiday apartments and private rooms for rent are to be found there. Numerous tavernas provide for the creature comforts and the 12 km long sandy beach will delight all fans of the sea. Hotels, beach bars and even a new village, Kavros, have sprung up along the beach. The latter caters for hotel guests who do not want to walk to Georgioupolis.

An ideal place for a family holiday.
